Job posting: Academic Assistant for CERTIZENS research project

The CERTIZENS research project at CAS is seeking a part-time Academic Assistant to join an exciting team of researchers from Denmark, Ghana and Uganda, within the project Certifications of Citizenship in Africa (CERTIZENS). The starting date for the position is 1 October 2022.

The CERTIZENS project was established in late 2020 and will run until late 2024. We are seeking a part-time Academic Assistant available to work for a minimum of one year, preferably two, based in Copenhagen. The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic team of researchers, spread between CAS in Copenhagen, the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana in Accra, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda.

Main tasks:

The Academic Assistant will provide crucial support to CERTIZENS in key areas such as:

  • Managing the CERTIZENS website, newsletter, podcast series, social media and other communications platforms
  • Supporting the Project Leader in administration and other designated tasks, including general email correspondence, and support for the CERTIZENS Working Paper Series
  • Providing necessary organizational support for CERTIZENS conferences, workshops, 
    seminars
  • Monitoring and curating relevant research resources to support CERTIZENS researchers

We expect you to:

  • Be fluent in written and oral English
  • Have completed a bachelor degree, and/or have relevant work experience 
  • Have strong proven skills in written, visual and verbal communication, including in the use of online/ digital media
  • Have good administrative and/or organizational experience
  • Be able and willing to take on ad hoc tasks and occasionally work under pressure
  • Be a good team-worker and be able to relate to a diverse range of people in an international environment

Working hours and conditions:

  • Working 10 hours per week, usually distributed across two weekdays, but with a need for flexibility depending on the concentration of work load
  • Working primarily at the Centre of African Studies on the UCPH South Campus

Wage:

  • The period of employment begins 1 October 2022 (or shortly thereafter).
  • The employment is made in accordance with the Circular on the Collective Agreement concerning Academics in the state sector concluded between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and Akademikerne (the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations).

The position is initially limited to a one-year contract with the strong possibility of extension.  Ideally we are looking for someone with a longer-term commitment.
