I obtained a cand.theol. degree in 2018 from the University of Copenhagen with study stays in France, England, and Germany. In 2023, I received a dual Ph.D. in church history (University of Copenhagen) and French literature (Université Rennes 2) for a thesis on spiritual intimacy and mysticism in the early modern period. During the fall and winter of 2023/24, I am a postdoc in Canada at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, and from spring 2024 until January 2025, I am affiliated with Université Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris 3. Both stays are funded by the Carlsberg Foundation's Internationalization Postdoctoral Scholarship (https://www.carlsbergfondet.dk/da/Forskningsaktiviteter/Bevillingsstatistik/Bevillingsoversigt/CF23_0161_Bastian-Felter-Vaucanson). I am simultaneously attached to the Centre for Privacy Studies as an affiliated researcher.

My research revolves around descriptions of private religious experiences in the early modern period, especially among female mystics and their male associates. I am interested in the interaction between private faith and social conventions. At the core of my research is the question of how the inner spiritual lives of women and men were influenced by social factors, and how social conventions were affected by private religious experiences. My research has particularly focused on the lay mystic Jeanne Guyon (1648-1717) and the Ursuline nun Marie de l'Incarnation (1599-1672).
