Essence of Ordained Ministry: Vocation and / or Profession? 

The societal and cultural contexts of the Nordic Lutheran Churches are undergoing important changes. This conference will discuss significant traits of ordained ministry in the tension between a classical Lutheran theology of ordained ministry as a matter of vocation and, on the other hand, the ordained ministry as profession i. e. a sociological category. Through this tension, the conference aims at suggesting a current Lutheran identity and understanding of ordained ministry. Is it possible to identify an "essence" of ordained ministry in the present society, and, if so: wherein would such an essence consist?
