On 1 September, Anna Vind begins a monograph scholarship from The Carlsberg Foundation

Anna Vind

The monograph investigates Martin Luther as a language philosopher from a new perspective. The aim is to show that there is a line of thought between Renaissance criticism of medieval Aristotelian thinking about language and then Philipp Melanchthon and Luther at the time of the Reformation. At the same time there are also important divergences between the view of language and the communication of truth in the two reformers – differences, which perhaps go back to diversities found in 15th-century Renaissance thought.

Besides Melanchthon and Luther, key figures in the study are two humanists, the Italian Lorenzo Valla and the Dutch Rudolph Agricola.

The book project begins September 1, 2023.
