N2 - The article examines the negating of the infinitive in biblical and post-biblical Hebrew. The combination of the negation ayin with infinitive is widely claimed to belong to the linguistic layer commonly referred to as late biblical Hebrew and scholars use it to late-date texts. The article showa how overlooked examples of the construction are found in texts commonly assigned to an earlier period, precluding the conclusion that it is useful in the dating of texts.
