War, Comfort, and Compassion in Lamentations
Research output: Contribution to journal › Journal article › Research › peer-review
The biblical book of Lamentations presents in strikingly vivid detail the actuality of war through figurative language and poetic technique. Its composition and loose connection to actual specific historical events, suggests a liturgical and reflective use. Close attention to the interaction of literary personae in the first two chapters discloses not only the important themes of compassion and comfort, but also the role of human empathy and as such discloses an ethic of importance today.
