Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingBook chapterResearch

A presentation of the results of a 30-month research project on transnational Sufism conducted under the Transnationakl Communities Programme of the UK Economic and Social Research Council. Fieldwork was conducted in the UK, Daghestan and Lebanon and on the Internet in this study of a small Naqshabandi Sufi order which has attracted attention due to its ability to find support both in traditional societies and among Muslim immigrants and converts in Europe and North America. The study concludes that the order's variety of visible forms is held together by the central role of the shaykh - as an order, the Haqqanis exist where the shaykh is.
