Displacement Economies in Africa: Paradoxes of Crisis and Creativity (Zed Books, 2014) recommended in LSE Review of Books

Publication

CAS was delighted to discover that an edited volume by our Director, Amanda Hammar – with contributions from a range of excellent international scholars – was recommended recently by LSE Review of Books as one of the ten “illuminating reads on African politics, society and economics”.

The book, Displacement Economies in Africa: Paradoxes of Crisis and Creativity (Zed Books, 2014), brings together empirical case studies from across sub-Saharan Africa to provide fresh insights into the unexpected changes, complex agency and persistent dynamism entailed in displacement processes.

It not only interrogates the many meanings of displacement but also emphasises the under-researched agency and creativity inherent to displacement economies throughout Africa.
