New teaching staff at CAS
At CAS we are very happy to introduce and welcome our new teacher in Economic Development in Africa Dr. Abel Gwaindepi. Dr Abel Gwaindepi holds an MA in Development Economics from Rhodes University (South Africa) and a PhD in Economics (focusing on Economic History) from Stellenbosch University (South Africa). He joined Lund University as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Economic History in September 2018. His research interests are in the economic development of the Global South, focusing on economic history, public economics, state formation and the political economy of Africa’s development challenges and opportunities. His PhD dissertation focused on public revenues, expenditures, and debt of colonial South Africa (Cape Colony) in the 19th century. Recent output can be found by clicking here. He is currently interested and working on a project on the fiscal capacity development in Africa in comparative perspective from 1900 to the present.
Abel feels that CAS is a great intellectual environment in which he can both contribute and benefit from the interdisciplinary approach of the centre and says “I particularly look forward to valuable exchange and collaborations with students and staff from differing academic backgrounds”. Welcome!
