STUDENT ASSISTANT POSITION FOR RESEARCH PROJECT AT THE CENTRE OF AFRICAN STUDIES: CERTIZENS

The Centre of African Studies (CAS) on the South Campus of the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) is looking for a part-time student assistant to be part of an exciting new team of researchers from Denmark, Ghana and Uganda, starting 15 February 2021.

The CERTIZENS Project, based at Copenhagen University’s Centre of African Studies (CAS) on the South Campus, is looking for a part-time Student Assistant (SA), starting 15 February 2021. The successful applicant will become part of a dynamic team of researchers, who are spread between CAS in Copenhagen, the Institute of African Studies at the University of Ghana in Accra, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Makerere University in Kampala.

CERTIZENS focuses on the logics, policies and practices of different regimes of citizen classification, certification and identification, and on the uses and abuses of ID documents, in selected African contexts, and their multi-layered effects both on state-making and citizen-making. Main tasks:

The Student Assistant will provide crucial support to CERTIZENS in a number of key areas such as:

  • Managing the CERTIZENS website, newsletter and other communications platforms
  • Supporting the Project Leader in administration and other designated tasks
  • Maintaining research resources such as the CERTIZENS online library
  • Providing necessary organizational support for CERTIZENS conferences, workshops,
    seminars

We expect you to:

  • Be fluent in written and oral English
  • Have completed at least two years of your bachelor degree or more and have at least one
    year left of your studies including masters studies
  • Have strong proven skills in written, visual and verbal communication, including in the use of online/ digital media
  • Have good administrative and/or organizational experience
  • Be able and willing to take on ad hoc tasks and occasionally work under pressure
  • Be a good team-worker and be able to relate to a diverse range of people in an international environment

Working hours and conditions:

  • Working 7½ hours per week, usually distributed across two weekdays, but with a need for flexibility depending on the concentration of work load
  • Working at the Centre of African Studies on the UCPH South Campus, or from home, depending on COVID-19 restrictions
  • Receiving the standard hourly pay for Student Assistants at the University of Copenhagen
