CERTIZENS PhD research stay at CAS
CAS was delighted to host four visiting PhDs from the Ghana and Uganda country teams of the CERTIZENS Project (see here) this spring from 24 April to 24 June: Agnes Doe Agbanyo and Isaac Owusu Nsiah from the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana Legon, and Martin Buhamizo and Milcah Abasabyona from Makerere University. Together with CERTIZENS’ locally based fifth PhD, Amanda Wendel Malm, they enjoyed a very productive research stay in Copenhagen.
Some highlights during their visit included a special PhD workshop in late April together with PhDs from the CitizenGap Research Project at the University of Amsterdam, that focused on comparative dimensions of their respective studies related to legal identity, national ID systems, and related forms of citizen inclusion and exclusion among other topics, in Africa and Asia; and their participation with all other members of the CERTIZENS team in a panel at the European Conference of African Studies (ECAS) in Cologne in early June.
We ended this enriching exchange with a warm-hearted farewell both to our four visiting PhDs and to the outgoing CERTIZENS Project Assistant, Raramai Campbell, hosted by the CERTIZENS Project Leader, Professor Amanda Hammar.
