Associate Professor, Stig Jensen, has recently been in the media to discuss the ongoing military coups that many African counties are experiencing. He explains that many citizens in the countries in Africa that have experienced military coups recently are facing multiple crisis that have led them to this instability. These crisis (economic, security, democratic, autocratic, demographic, and climate) in connection to an increase in distrust for politicians and the political institutions has led to these most recent coups experienced in Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Guinea, Sudan, Gabon, Chad, and Zimbabwe. The African people, therefore, face internal pressures of political instability while also experiencing the pressure of international sanctions which affect civilians more than state infrastructures. These sanctions coupled with unemployment has led many people to rise up side by side with the military who have promised to only be a temporary government. However, we have yet to see any of these military powers step aside for a more democratic process.
