Congo: a Silent Genocide
National Football Team Protest
Associate Professor, Stig Jensen, was recently interviewed for the podcast Tiden, produced by DR, about conflicts in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in relation to the Congolese national football team's protest during the semifinal at African Cup of Nations. The players held one hand over their mouth and another up to their head to symbolize the silent genocide happening in the country. The DRC has a long history of being exploited for their natural resources mainly by companies from the Global North. This has led to longstanding and numerous internal conflict in the country. With a history of exploitation as well as colonial occupation by Belgium, the DRC along with many other African countries are showing an increase in anti-west protests.
