Mumbi Macharia is the new Kiswahili teacher at the Centre of African Studies
New Staff
Born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, Mumbi will be teaching Kiswahili I and Kiswahili II at the Center of African Studies
Mumbi completed her MA in African Studies in 2024 at the Center of African Studies where she wrote her thesis on spoken word poetry as a site for expressing identity and belonging in Kenya. Prior to that, Mumbi graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Riara University in Nairobi, Kenya.
By passion, Mumbi is a performing spoken word poet, and a luminary in the poetry scene in East Africa.
Kiswahili is an elective component of the MA in African Studies.
