CAS welcomes Johanne Rebsdorf as a new PhD Student
The Centre of African Studies welcomes Johanne Rebsdorf as a new PhD Student, starting September 1st, 2025.

Johanne Rebsdorf graduated from the Department of Anthropology at the University of Copenhagen in 2023 with an MA degree in Business Anthropology. She wrote her thesis on shifting concepts of textile waste in the supply chain of used textiles from the UK to Ghana, conducting extensive ethnographic fieldwork in both locations.
Since handing in her thesis, she has been working as a consultant at the Danish consultancy for sustainability, Norion, where she has mainly worked with circular economy and the textile sector.
Her PhD project will focus on garment redesign studios in Sub-Saharan Africa and how their creative design processes are motivated, inspired, distracted and disrupted by the political and moral discussions and waste landscapes that surround the imported used textiles, they source for their designs. The project aims to provide a new lens with which to analyse global sustainability regimes and the displacement of responsibilities for green transition.
Welcome Johanne!
