Gabon’s 2025 Election: A Turning Point?

In a recent Globalnyt article, Professor Stig Jensen analyses Gabon’s April 2025 election.
Following a non-violent coup in 2023, General Brice Oligui Nguema brought an end to the Bongo family’s 56-year rule and has now secured the presidency with nearly 95% of the vote. Unlike many coup leaders, Nguema has delivered on promises of democratic reform. Professor Jensen suggests that both the electoral process and its outcome could prove pivotal — not only for Gabon, but for the entire region.
