Welcome to new staff members

We are very happy to welcome Simona Bianchi as PhD fellow at Centre of African Studies, and William Francises as guest student at Centre of African Studies and the Centre for Privacy Studies.
Simona Bianchi will be working on the ‘Multiple Waterscapes in Urban Ghana’ research project at Centre of African Studies. She has a background in anthropology, African studies, and geography. She will be focusing on the daily struggles women face in Asawase (Kumasi, Ghana), as they navigate physical and psychological barriers to accessing and using water. Her research employs a theoretical framework of urban and feminist political ecology and emotional geography.
William Francises is an architectural researcher with an interdisciplinary focus that merges architecture, music, and art. William will be investigating the concept and histories of privacy within multi-family homes, commonly referred to as compound houses in Ghana. His research centers on the preye tsea (the short broom) as a lens for understanding the domestic relationships between public and private spaces in these homes.
