In a recent episode of the Globalnyt podcast, Associate Professor Stig Jensen discusses the growing youth discontent and state violence in East Africa.

Across East Africa, young people are facing growing unemployment and corruption. In countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, this dissatisfaction has sparked waves of protests and civil unrest. In response, governments have intensified their use of force, including police violence, arrests, and suppression of dissent. At the same time, European countries have scaled back their criticism in favour of more equal partnerships. While this shift aims to respect national sovereignty, it also leaves more room for authoritarian practices to go unchecked.
