Debate: East Africa - Progress or Democratic Decay?

International Debate invites to a debate about East Africa's political situation and future, where Stig Jensen will participate as one of the panellist and present about the general economic situation in Africa.

Africa has been called world champion in economic growth. In recent years Africa has been called the continent of the opportunities, mainly because of the economic development of the Eastern region. But are there any real progress? Foreign investment, exports of commodities and economic reforms all mean that East Africa is a success story, but behind this success are other problems. Even though the economic lion runs faster than ever before, the question is who benefits from this development? The East African countries still top the corruption list, inequality rises and human rights are violated.  Should economic growth and democratic rights be concomitant before we can talk about a success story?

To debate this, there has been assembled a strong panel consisting of:
• Secretary General of Danish Refugee Council, Christian Friis Bach
• Journalist and former chairman of MS, Knud Vilby
• Researcher and Head of Social Sciences and Business Roskilde University, Peter Kragelund
• Lecturer at the Center for Africa Studies, Stig Eduard Breitenstein Jensen
Finally, radio director Anne Sofie Allarp at Radio24syv's foreign magazine 'Datolinjen' will we the panel moderator.

The event will be held in danish.
