Performance et Performativité
Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Book chapter › Research › peer-review
The performative turn represents a new and powerful avenue of in- quiry for scholarly analysis, and today it is used in various disciplines, such as the performing arts, philosophy, linguistics, anthropology, sociology, and gender studies. Performance can be defined as everything that is not writ- ten : corporality, movements, interactions with the audience, temporality, ephemerality and unrepeatable experience. Performativity was first defined as the power of language to change the world and was soon applied to the body in gender studies, considering both sex and gender as social and cultural constructions. The principal concepts of performance and per- formativity are presented in this chapter, along with a historiographical survey focusing on theatre and music. Finally, future directions of research are suggested, notably the idea of making as epistemology, practice-based research, and embodied research.
