The working title of my PhD-project is Scriptura, fides et experientia - On the Experience of the Word of God in Erasmus' and Luther's dispute on the Free Will. The project aims to study how the concept of experience is hermeneutically and theologically conceived in the authorships of Erasmus and Luther, and how this understanding affects the different perspectives on the free will.

The investigation implies a thoroughgoing study of Erasmus' and Luther's reflections on anthropology, Christology and pneumatology through their works and in their historical contextuality. Necessarily, this invovles the question of how to conceive faith in Erasmus and Luther, as the concept of faith constitutes the cornerstone of their theology. Therefore, this research project particularly seeks to define the character of the experience of faith in relation to all other human experiences in order to shed light on the dispute on the will.

An essential aspect of this research project is that it also considers the works of Erasmus and Luther published before 1524/25 in order to examine their distinctive perspectives on faith, experience, and will in light of their theological approaches already present before the outbreak of the dispute.
