Grading scheme and grades

In Denmark, academic work is marked according to the 7-step-scale. 02 is the required grade to pass a subject.

Below is a description of the Danish 7-point grading scale and a comparison with the ECTS grading scale.

Danish Grade

 ECTS Grade Explanation of performance
12 A For an excellent performance displaying a high level of command of all aspects of the relevant material, with no or only a few minor weaknesses.
10 B For a very good performance displaying a high level of command of most aspects of the relevant material, with only minor weaknesses.
7  C For a good performance displaying good command of the relevant material but also some weaknesses.
4  D For a fair performance displaying some command of the relevant material but also some major weaknesses.
02  E For a performance meeting only the minimum requirements for acceptance.
00  FX For a performance which does not meet the minimum requirements for acceptance.
-3   F For a performance which is unacceptable in all respects.

The grades are published on the online Self Service portal (see Registration for Courses and Exams). You can print or save an official transcript from the online Self Service portal as well. If you want the transcript signed and stamped, please inquire at the Student Advisor's office.

Courses in English and credits

A large number of our international students take courses in English not only at the Faculty of Theology but also at another institute or department at the University of Copenhagen. All courses offered in English at the University of Copenhagen are listed on the course website here.

All courses in English at the Faculty of Theology are offered to both BA and MA students. BA and MA students will be in the same course but the exam requirements will not be the same.

A full study load for one semester is 30 ECTS credits. Be aware that credits for courses are only awarded if you pass the exam. Studying is a full time job, and in addition to attending classes, you will be expected to spend much time reading and doing research in the library.

Course reader

The lecturers will either upload texts on the teaching platform Absalon, use a text book or prepare a course reader, which can be purchased in the book shop Academic Books, KUA2 on South Campus, for approx. 200-300 DKK. Some courses are also offered to DIS students, who can purchase the text books at http://disabroad.org/. Your course lecturer will give you information on the course literature.
