Sofie Aaltonen is a new PhD fellow in the Section of Biblical Exegesis

From 1 September, 2025, to 31 August, 2028, Sofie is employed as a PhD fellow in the Section of Biblical Exegesis at the Faculty of Theology.

Sofie’s research investigates how the Danish legal and welfare state regulates Islamic institutions and Muslims across the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of power, drawing on both formal and informal dimensions of legality.

Her project contributes to interdisciplinary collaboration, one of the hallmark features of the Faculty of Theology, building on the discipline of Sociology of Law to examine the relationship between law and religion in Denmark.

Sofie holds a BA in International Studies from Roskilde University (June 2022) and an MA in Sociology of Law from Lund University (May 2024).
