Erasmus and Luther – The Bible as medium of change?
CCLR-seminar with Professor Marius Mjaaland, University of Oslo, and Professor Brian Cummings, University of York.

Marius Mjaaland’s short paragraph
If the Bible has any impact at all, it must be due to the clarity of the Holy Scripture, Luther argues against Erasmus. How can he make such a claim? Or argue that Scripture is “its own interpreter”? Luther’s arguments often seem questionable and exaggerated to a modern reader. But what happens when the questions return to the reader, affects her being in some profound sense? What happens when a movement takes place, within the very act of interpretation?
