CANCELLED: PRIVACY LECTURE: Churches

Lecture by Prof. Lee Palmer Wandel

We are happy to announce that on 7 December our visiting Professor Lee Palmer Wandel will give a public lecture which approaches churches as the intersection of devotional and communal space.

Abstract:

My talk explores how we might think about churches before they became mere buildings in the wake of Reformation iconoclasm.  It approaches them as a place, as the intersection of the devotional and the communal, where ordinary Christians across Europe gathered to participate variously in the Eucharist.

Lee Palmer Wandel is WARF Michael Baxandall and Linda and Stanley Sher Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an expert on texts, objects, practices and identities related to early modern Christianity. She is the author of, among other works, Reading Catechisms, Teaching Religion (Brill, 2016) and The Reformation: Towards a New History (Cambridge University Press, 2011).

The lecture is open for all to attend, but registration is required via this form.

Instructions will be sent via email.
