Prof. Helle Vogt gave lecture at Hanoi University
In December 2018, Helle Vogt gave a lecture at a undergraduate programme at the Faculty of International Studies, Hanoi University. The theme was ‘Human Rights in a Historical and Post-Colonial Context’.
The purpose of the lecture was to give the students an understanding of how the idea of inalienable rights has developed through the seventeenth century to this day, but also to provide the students with an understanding of the challenges that arise when the discourse of inalienable rights, stemming in its origins from a Christian–Western context, is applied globally. Within this broader frame, the lecture focused in particular on the relation between cultural and religious rights and on the protection of privacy, e.g. in relation to gender equality and the right to a family. Around 100 students attended the lecture.
