Sari Nauman awarded the honourable Birger Karlsson’s Science Prize 2023
Motivation: Birger Karlsson's 2023 is awarded to Sari Nauman, for her research focusing on early modern political culture. From a historical and political science perspective, she examines how authorities, local communities and nation states deal with the presence of European internal refugees. Her research, which has received international attention, shows how early modern history gives us the opportunity to better understand and question our present day.
Sari is working at the University of Gothenburg on her Pro Futura research project: Outsiders Within: Internally Displaced Persons in Early Modern Europé.
About the The Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg
The Royal Society of Arts and Sciences in Gothenburg was founded in 1778. It is an independent learned society encompassing different disciplines in Sciences, Arts and Social Sciences. Its general objectives are to promote scientific exchange among different disciplines. The activities are mainly focused on lectures, conferences and publications. Support to researchers is given through grants. In addition, a number of prizes are awarded on a regular basis. New scientific needs, not yet recognized in the regular university system, are identified and promoted.
Members are elected through a dedicated selection procedure and authorized by the Academy’s membership.
