Natasha Gordon-Chipembere concludes her stay at PRIVACY
After an inspiring and engaging research visit in June in association with Fulbright, the Centre for Privacy Studies has said farewell to guest researcher Dr. Natasha Gordon-Chipembere. Her visit sparked intellectual curiosity at the intersection of historical research and fiction and initiated many stimulating conversations at the centre.
Natasha took an active part in the centre's activities, including facilitating a workshop on the relationship between historical research and historical fiction, based on her novel Finding La Negrita. The workshop prompted important reflections on method, interpretation, and representation when working with colonial histories and sources.
She also hosted the seminar “Costa Rica, two Danish slave ships and the rewriting of history”, in which she presented her ongoing book project centred on two Danish slave ships that sank near the coast of Costa Rica.
Through her research dissemination and creative storytelling, Natasha contributed meaningfully to the centre's discussions on the history of colonialism and enslaved people. She has inspired us to think more broadly about knowledge production and how fictional narratives can serve as a form of historical method and promote a heightened awareness.
We warmly thank Natasha for her presence and contributions.
