New blog post by Asta Mønsted on private belongings in historic Greenland
In her newly published blog post, PRIVACY-scholar Asta Mønsted reflects on private spaces and personal belongings in historic Greenlandic Inuit cultures. Taking five different layers of property into account, Asta demonstrates how most belongings followed private ownership structures. However, the home sphere was a dynamic and ever-changing matter, shifting from united family constellations in the winter to smaller groups in the summer. The winter dwelling required collaborative efforts and smooth operations to ensure the collective well-being. As such, the dynamic home sphere in the Inuit cultures reveals a complex interplay between the private and the common.
