New scholars join PRIVACY and CAS in March

We are pleased to welcome William Francises, a new guest student, and Simona Bianchi, a new PhD fellow, to the Centre for Privacy Studies and the Centre of African Studies.
William Francises is an architectural researcher with an interdisciplinary focus that merges architecture, music, and art. At PRIVACY, William is investigating the concept and histories of privacy within multi-family homes, commonly referred to as compound houses in Ghana. His research centers on the preye tsea (the short broom) as a lens for understanding the domestic relationships between public and private spaces in these homes.
Simona Bianchi has a background in anthropology, African studies, and geography. In her PhD project, she investigates the daily struggles women face in Asawase (Kumasi, Ghana), as they navigate physical and psychological barriers to accessing and using water. Her research, affiliated with the MUWUG project at the Centre of African Studies, draws on a theoretical framework of urban and feminist political ecology as well as emotional geography.
We are happy to have both William and Simona join our team and look forward to the valuable insights their research will bring to the Centre.
