Workshop on alternatives to big tech services with Kritik Digital

Last week, we co-hosted the workshop Take control over your digital life with Kritik Digital. Facilitated by Kritik Digital, with their expertise in justice in the digital world, the workshop aimed to uncover some of the mechanisms and values behind, in particular, the US big tech companies, while suggesting decentralized, open source, free, and encrypted alternative platforms for social media, browsing, document storage and sharing.

While the hands-on part of the workshop centred around how we as users can switch to alternative platforms, we also had a discussion about how changes have to be made at the institutional and political level as well. E.g., at the University of Copenhagen, it is centrally decided which software we can use for services such as email, document sharing, exam uploads, etc. Thus, we were very happy that both students and researchers, as well as representatives from management level of the University of Copenhagen, participated.

We thank Kritik Digital for taking the time and inspiring us to take control of our digital lives and choices.
