Was Eve curious, ignorant, disobedient, or something else?

The story of Eve and Adam, as told in Genesis 3, has been analysed by theologians and philosophers not only to understand the nature of the committed sin, but also, and most importantly, to determine the nature of Eve and by extension, of women in general.

When women began to participate in this debate, they contributed with surprising new interpretations of the story and challenged established views.

In my presentation, I will explore some of the positions held by women intellectuals of the Renaissance, including Isotta Nogarola (1418-1466) and Arcangela Tarabotti (1604-1652).
