"Luther as metaphysician?!’
"'Luther as metaphysician?!’ Analysis of the philosophical 'proofs' of the Heidelberg Disputation.”
James Dunn is a teacher of religion and philosophy at Bennett Memorial Diocesan School in England. In 2023, he received his PhD from Yale, having spent two years as a guest researcher at the Ecumenical Institute in Heidelberg. His dissertation, ‘The Reformation of Virtue: The Teaching of Aristotle’s Ethics at Wittenberg, Helmstedt, and Jena (1502-1648)’ has been accepted for publication by Mohr Siebeck and is due to appear next year.
At the meeting, Jamie will present part of his work on the Heidelberg Disputation, offering an analysis of Luther’s ‘proofs’ for the philosophical theses, and an attempt to situate these in the wider context of Luther’s career.
