Transgressing Boundaries: Biblical and Social Scientific Studies of Migration

The transgression of boundaries is essential to the study of migration. People on the move cross geographical, cultural, and linguistic boundaries, and migration scholars have long traversed interdisciplinary terrains. In this workshop, we aim to push this interdisciplinary endeavor into new territory by forging a conversation between the social sciences and biblical studies on the topic of ancient and contemporary migration.

More specifically, we are interested in what role the Bible plays in contemporary migration and how ancient migration is depicted in the Bible. How might mirroring these two questions open a new space for interdisciplinary cross-fertilization, even transformation?

Hosted by the Faculty of Theology, the "Divergent Views of Diaspora in Ancient Judaism" project, and funded by the Nils Klim Prize 2020, this is purposely a closed workshop in order to facilitate more generative conversation.
