N2 - This report is the first attempt to map the regulation of nonreligion and the nonreligious in Denmark. However, while this report might be the first of its kind from the Danish context, it does not exist in a vacuum. Rather, it contributes to the expanding study of nonreligion, which has become an influential field of its own over the past 20 years, both generally and in Denmark. This, too, includes the study of the legal perspectives on nonreligion, towards which scholars have also begun to turn their gazeThus, we focus on the importance of conceptual clarity in researching the regulation of the nonreligions and argue for the existence of a religious default bias in Denmark, which does not cater to the nonreligious. The report follows the structure of these two main points. We first discuss and introduce the concept and field of nonreligion, generally and specifically in Denmark. Next, we present three different case studies. Following this presentation, we discuss the practical challenges which this default-bias creates, and finally, we discuss the integration of the nonreligious in the Evangelical-Lutheran Church of Denmark and point to interesting avenues for research in the future.
