Judeans in Babylonia: How Was the Life in Exile?

Workshop om, hvad jøderne egentlig lavede i eksilet i Babylon – med postdoc, ph.d. Tero Alstola fra Helsinki Universitet:

The Babylonian Exile of Judeans marks a watershed in the development of early Judaism, and various books of the Hebrew Bible reflect on the exilic experience. However, life in Babylonia was not a major concern for biblical authors, and the research of Judeans in Babylonia is heavily dependent on cuneiform sources. In this workshop, we will use cuneiform texts to investigate the everyday lives and social structures of Judean communities both in Babylonian cities and the countryside. We will find out if Judeans were free or enslaved, how did they earn their living, and whether they integrated into Babylonian society or not. We will read texts in translation, and no knowledge of cuneiform is needed to participate.

Workshoppen er på engelsk – og alle er velkomne!
